Hi Matt: Did you get my pictures? I used your blog tips on Simple Green & the other bloggers WD40 tip and a very grungy Disston I cleaned up today came out real nice. I have 2 more Disstons but the hands are junk where can I get new or used replacement hands?
Thanks!

Just what is there about dropping a saw, toe first, 30 feet, that establishes the quality of the saw? Will a good one imbed the toe into the plank below? (Maybe he thinks he's DaVinci.) Will all but the best crinkle up into a small accordion? Or maybe slice the plank cleanly in half? I know I am thick, but.....

Hi Matt,

"...I love this book not just because of its wisdom (which is not absolute, by the way…I disagree with much of it), but..."

I wonder if Hodgson would think your knowledge was not absolute, since he disagrees with much of it?

Just thinking.

I read this after Grimshaw and stumbled on it when downloading some Disston manual.

I would agree it's way better then Grimshaw for information but it's surprising none of the books including this one offer a reference table with basic Rake/Fleam angles for the different types of saws. Most just offer pictures that aren't drawn accurately enough for a protractor.

I'm guessing this is in part to keeping trade secrets in field that was competitive at the time of writing . . .

Hi Nick

Check out www.backsaw.net Its a great saw forum hosted by Ray Gardiner. He's got a whole section with old saw tote patterns. You do have to register to become a member, otherwise, you can't access the forums.

As for saw nuts, I like Gramercy Tools nuts from TFWW. Here's the link:

Matt,
Any chance your have a source for old school saw handle patterns. I've some of Mike Wenzloff's patterns from is web site but I would like some more choices. Also, I dont have access to old saws for parts does anyone make new saw nuts and medallions that are worth using? Thanks Nick
